FDA approves new easy to use saliva test for ovulation
HAUPPAUGE, NY, March 14, 2003 - Saliva has been proven as a reliable
indicator of ovulation. TCI Optics, an international optics
firm, announced today that they have received FDA clearance
for a natural
device that allows women to view their saliva and accurately
predict when they ovulate.
“After five years of clinical preparation and two national
studies involving hundreds of women, the results were conclusive,” said
Gerald Rausnitz, President of TCI. “We proved, to the FDA’s
satisfaction, that the TCI Ovulation Tester was almost a hundred
percent accurate in predicting ovulation.”
No bigger than a compact case, the TCI Ovulation Tester is a hand
held, reusable microscope that allows women to see a unique pattern
in their saliva called ferning. Based on the rise and fall of the
hormone estrogen, this ferning pattern looks like frost on a windowpane
and develops in saliva around the time of ovulation. A woman simply
places a drop of saliva onto the device, lets it dry and looks
through the eyepiece.
“This new and exciting system works.” said Kathleen
Fry, M.D., president of the American Holistic Medical Association
and one of the nation’s leading gynecologists. Another gynecologist,
Christiane Northrup, M.D., the author of the best selling book
Women’s Wisdom, Women’s Bodies, said, "This simple
and empowering tool allows women to learn about and take charge
of their own fertility. I recommend it highly."
The tester is reusable and has a replaceable slide wheel so consumers
will be able to save their daily saliva patterns. “I will
be able to review the patterns with my patients,” said Dr.
Fry. “This tester provides women with an ongoing method of
understanding when they can conceive. I am excited that there is
now a low cost alternative to expensive and inconvenient urine
testing.”
TCI is marketing the product for $59.95. Interested consumers
